Happy Things: Shadows

Yesterday morning, I saw one of my closest friends plurking about shadows. I wanted to try again to see if I can capture shadows in a photograph. She credited Berrylumpkin’s shadow video tutorial. I followed the super simple instructions. After just about 5 minutes, I was bouncing off the walls giggling because I was able to get a photo with shadows and no crashing!

Today this is my Happy Thing: Shadows

In the past, I was using a different viewer and super huge photos. I was able to see shadows inworld but not get them on a photograph. All the photos I was able to capture without crashing were black. I was super frustrated and thought it was my nearly 3 year old laptop that couldn’t manage. Boy was I wrong!

I did have to tweak my photo size so I don’t crash. I used to take photos at over 6k px size with little to no antialiasing. Now I’m down around a third of that with a higher antialiasing. I learned that trick when doing research for my photo setup tutorial bootcamp.

Don’t give up on shadows just yet. I encourage you to check out many of the tutorials to find what works for you. Of course graphics cards and hardward do play a part, but still, if my laptop can and I can, surely there’s a way for you too!
